From redundancy to $4.2 million lotto prize: WA workmates tell

A group of Perth workmates have claimed a $4.2 million Lotto prize after more than half the syndicate members were made redundant.

The coordinator of the syndicate, which has been running for more than 10 years, says she wasn’t hopeful when she heard a division one winner had been sold at Flinders Square Lucky Lotto in Yokine following the weekend’s Saturday Lotto draw.

“I was sure we didn’t have one of the winning numbers and thought to myself ‘those lucky buggers’. It wasn’t until I checked my ticket in-store that I realised we were the lucky buggers,” she said.

Each of the syndicate’s 15 members will collect almost $285,000.

“It was starting to look pretty tough financially for quite a few of us,” one winner said.

“We have school fees, mortgages and just your day-to-day bills to pay so this couldn’t have come at a more perfect time.”
